Tom McCarthy is a freelance journalist based in the south of Ireland. He received a BSc in Public Health & Health Promotion from University College Cork (UCC) in 2008 and completed a Masters in Public Health in 2010. With an interest in journalism bordering on the obsessive, he is a former health editor with Motley Magazine, a UCC student-orientated publication, and a contributor to UCC's Express newspaper. To keep the bailiff from the door, he freelances with various newspapers and websites, and can also be found operating as a work placement co-ordinator and on/off researcher, tutor and lecturer in the Dept. of Epidemiology and Public Health, UCC. He is also currently undertaking a Masters in Journalism and New Media in Cork Institute of Technology.
